Does God Exist? My Personal Journey to Finding an Answer

I’ve asked myself this profound question “Does God exist?” along with “What happens after we die?” countless times throughout my life.

For many years, these existential questions have accompanied me on my journey.

I’ve always preferred to form my opinions based on my own experiences rather than adopting someone else’s perspective or beliefs.

Growing up in a Catholic Christian household, my grandparents instilled in me a strong belief in God “The Creator.”

During my childhood, believing in God wasn’t a choice.

It was simply the reality I was taught to accept without question.

However, as the years passed and I traveled extensively through this beautiful world, I encountered diverse cultures and belief systems that expanded my horizons.

The more I explored different corners of our planet, the more open-minded I became about spirituality and the divine.

From Unquestioning Faith to Spiritual Exploration

As I developed the ability to question and research independently, my traditional belief in God began to transform.

While I’ve believed in angels since childhood, I could never fully embrace the concept of “One BIG Boss” sitting behind a desk, deciding whether souls enter heaven or descend to hell.

This simplistic view never resonated with my understanding of spirituality.

Instead, I listened attentively to people from various backgrounds sharing their beliefs and traditions.

After many months backpacking through Asia and immersing myself in local cultures, I found Buddhism particularly fascinating.

The structure of this spiritual tradition made profound sense to me.

I observed how people maintained joyful dispositions despite material challenges, how they supported each other without expecting anything in return, and how their philosophy created harmony in daily life.

A Transformative Experience in South America

My spiritual perspective evolved further during my backpacking adventures through Jamaica, Central and South America. These journeys deepened my spiritual awareness, but it was a 10-day Ayahuasca retreat in Bolivia that completely transformed my belief system.

While I’ll explore the details of this transformative experience in another post, I want to share the understanding of God that emerged from this profound encounter.

My Understanding of the Divine

I’ve come to perceive God as a sphere of light.

An infinite source of energy from which everything in our universe originates.

All living beings on our planet connect to the life-giving energy of Mother Nature, which in turn draws its energy from our galaxy, just as the moon, Mars, our sun, and all other planets do.

These galaxies connect to form our universe, and who knows if there aren’t parallel universes existing alongside ours?

At the very source, there must be a single point where all these different energies converge.

This unified source of energy is what we call “God”.

Visualizing the Divine Energy

Imagine God (the infinite energy source) as a standing figure, a bright white silhouette of a person.

From the smallest finger on the left hand of this silhouette streams one line of energy, which divides into countless smaller streams that supply all worlds and universes with energy.

As I’ve come to understand it: “**Matter** is the product of what **Energy** creates.”

Unity in Diversity

Across the world, various religions and cultures speak of one or multiple gods, each with their own stories and legends.

Yet I believe that at their core, all spiritual traditions are describing the same fundamental reality.

They simply lack the capacity to fully understand each other’s perspectives.

If we could approach different spiritual traditions with openness and acceptance, sitting together to identify the similarities across all beliefs and religions, we might be astonished by what we discover.

A unified understanding of the divine that transcends cultural boundaries.

What Do You Believe?

What are your thoughts on this perspective?

Do you believe in some form of God?

Do you think God exists in the way I’ve described, or do you have a different understanding?

I’d be delighted if you shared your perspective with me.

Spiritual exploration is a deeply personal journey, and I value the diversity of insights we can gain from each other.

Thank you for reading and engaging with my spiritual reflections!

Peace,

Ralph
