How Ayahuasca Changed My Life: A Journey Toward Mindful Living

After my profound experiences at an Ayahuasca retreat in the Amazonian rainforest, which I’ve shared in my previous diary entries, many readers have asked about the lasting impact on my everyday life.

The transformation wasn’t just spiritual or temporary it fundamentally altered how I approach daily existence, from transportation choices to consumption habits.

This post explores the tangible ways Ayahuasca reshaped my relationship with the material world and deepened my connection with Mother Nature.

Rethinking Transportation and Mobility

To work on time guaranteed.

Since I lost trust in the punctuality of the German train system, I chose to use a car instead.

To be fair, the public transportation outside the cities in Germany is not the best.

So it is still good to have a car for some occasions.

For everyday life besides work, I only get around by foot or by bike, which is completely doable and you do something good for your health as well.

Even before I was taking part in the Retreat, I was a minimalistic kind of person, and this experience just enhanced that lifestyle even more.

Since I needed a car, I looked for one which was small, used very little fuel, is cheap, and could be repaired easily.

Just a car to get me from A to B and back.

I didn’t need more.

Sure, I could have bought a really nice car, one I really wanted to have and could show around, but I chose not to.

Because it was just not necessary.

Embracing Conscious Resource Conservation

I cut down on water, power, and heating as much as possible, not to cut expenses (even though it is expensive), just because it is not necessary to waste more than you need.

All that water, power, and oil/gas has to come from somewhere as well.

Mother Nature will thank you for every drop of water, every bit of electricity, and every bit of oil or gas you save.

I don’t have many materialistic things I own or possess.

Because I don’t need them.

I feel like those materialistic things, they distract me from life itself.

I do value adventures, experiences, and memories much more than materialistic things.

Fun Fact: The average American home contains over 300,000 items, and many people spend more on storage units than they do on experiences.
Research shows that experiences provide more lasting happiness than material possessions.

Transforming My Relationship with Food and Consumption

  1. I pay more attention to what I eat and drink.
  2. I don’t eat Fast Food anymore, but even before I rarely ate that stuff anyway.
  3. I drink almost no alcohol anymore, since I realized how bad it really is for your body.

But on the other hand, I developed quite an interest in natural psychedelic plants and their hallucinogenic and medical benefits to all kinds of people.

I eat more healthy in general and cut down on my more unhealthy snacks.

And before I buy something I can easily make myself, I make it myself (like bread, for example), because when I can, I wanna know exactly what I eat.

Retreat

Seeing Nature Through New Eyes

Now, I look at Nature with different eyes.

When I looked at Nature before, I found it a fascinating thing to look at and to try to understand how everything works together.

I enjoyed and loved spending time in nature.

Now, I feel part of it.

There is no separation or distinction, you are it.

Mother Nature surrounds us everywhere and always keeps an eye on us.

I look at Trees and other plants now and I see the energy flowing right through them.

I know it sounds really weird and crazy, but the plants are alive as well.

They have feelings, moods, and sicknesses just as we, as human beings, and as animals have.

In my opinion, plants should be considered “equal” to animals and humans, if you know what I mean.

Fun Fact: Plants communicate with each other through underground fungal networks sometimes called the “Wood Wide Web.”
They can share nutrients, send warning signals about threats, and even recognize their relatives.

Embracing Change While Facing Challenges

It’s not like I don’t appreciate those changes, actually it is the exact opposite!

I just let myself go and see where it takes me.

Some things are still hard to accept and hard to apply in every-day life.

It is hard to believe, for example, that we as human beings are not a virus spreading throughout the world and destroying everything in our path, including Mother Nature.

She told me repeatedly that she is fascinated by the human species and she loves to watch us live our lives.

We are not able to destroy this planet or kill Mother Nature, the only thing we will kill if we keep on with this path is us.

Mother Nature will always find a way, is what she told me.

if you want to read all about my experience with Mother Nature, keep on reading here.

Still, it is very hard to believe, that she is okay with what we do to her every day!

Reflections on Humanity’s Path

The thing I still can’t understand is how ignorant we still are to many of our big problems and instead fight each other in some way or another, compete against each other in everything, and push ourselves over others before even thinking of a way to unite all human beings as ONE.

We will never solve anything if we keep fighting each other.

Be that as it may, but that problem doesn’t involve Mother Nature.

We will have to figure it out for ourselves.

A Life Transformed: Final Thoughts

Looking back, I did not imagine that my Ayahuasca Retreat would change my life in so many ways.

But I am glad it did!

It opened my eyes to many things, changed the way I look at things and how I act on them, and most importantly, it changed what I believe in forever.

To the better!

I recommend to everyone who is open to such an experience and has the chance of traveling to the Amazonian Rainforest to take part in a properly guided Ayahuasca Retreat at a Retreat-Center, such as “Pisatahua” or “Casa de Pawua,” to take that chance!

It might not be pleasant at times, but after, you will feel relieved and happy that you did it.

But do yourself a favor and stick to the proper diet, which is necessary before you take Ayahuasca.

Thank you very much for reading my post.
