I never truly contemplated the question “Who or What is Mother Nature?” until I personally encountered her during my transformative 10-day Ayahuasca retreat in Riberalta, Bolivia.
That profound night completely reshaped my belief system and sparked this essential question in my mind.
The Universal Concept of Mother Nature
We hear the term “Mother Nature” across cultures worldwide, known as “Pacha Mama” in South America and by various names in other traditions.
She’s universally recognized as the source that “provides life and possibilities for everything.”
Indigenous peoples throughout our planet share similar wisdom about this force:
“Without her there is no us.”
“Without her you will not survive.”
“We need to respect Mother Nature and live in balance with her.”
“She is the one who creates life.”
“We need to live with Mother Nature, not from her.”
These aren’t merely poetic expressions, they point toward something much deeper than just words.
Mother Nature as a Conscious Being
Through my experiences, I’ve come to understand that Mother Nature is a conscious being, a spiritual entity or consciousness similar to a soul.
You can conceptualize it this way:
Her home, or more accurately, her “body” is this planet we inhabit.
Similarly, every other planet serves as the “body” for a soul with a higher spiritual status than our own.
These are higher life-forms than humanity, entities that many might associate with god-like status.
And that comparison is remarkably accurate, perhaps more than most realize.

The Divine Hierarchy and Mother Nature’s Role
When people pray, they typically direct their prayers toward some form of God or multiple deities.
In my understanding, we should direct our prayers to Mother Nature, as she provides everything necessary for all living beings on this planet, not exclusively for humans.
God himself/itself manages the entire universe and cannot focus solely on all living things simultaneously.
This is where Mother Nature enters the divine hierarchy.
She specifically watches over the living beings on Earth.
She bears responsibility for life on this planet, though not exclusively for humanity.
If we humans deplete the resources that Mother Nature has painstakingly provided over eons, she would no longer be able to support our needs, and humanity would face extinction.
This wouldn’t happen because Mother Nature failed in her role, but because we failed to consider the consequences of our own actions.
Life on Earth would continue, just without us.
And we would bear full responsibility for this outcome.
The Divine Nature of Mother Nature
Mother Nature is the closest manifestation of divinity I can comprehend!
The relationship is symbiotic and direct:
If Mother Nature becomes ill, we soon follow.
If Mother Nature dies, we die.
We should be fighting with every resource at our disposal to protect Mother Nature.
Instead, we take her gifts for granted.
We extract oil, gas, timber, whatever we need, we take without consideration of the cost or consequences.
Yet there will inevitably be consequences for our treatment of Mother Nature.
Her Unconditional Love for Humanity
Despite our actions, Mother Nature continues to love us and provide for us as long as she can, even if doing so leads to her own demise.
She observes every step you take, accompanies you and me throughout our lives, and always understands our emotions.
She accepts how you live without judgment.
The only thing she asks in return is this:
“Always remember and never forget”, that everything you possess (regardless of quantity), everything you can see, feel, touch, and smell comes from Mother Nature.
Your wealth, health, and life circumstances are irrelevant.
Mother Nature remains with you always, supporting you continuously.
In my view, this embodies what most would expect from a divine being.
My Personal Encounter with Mother Nature
During my Ayahuasca retreat, I had the extraordinary opportunity to meet Mother Nature herself and engage in the most mind-expanding conversation imaginable.
I plan to translate my entire experience from my retreat diary and publish it soon on this blog as well.
